Measure Vibrations in the Right Way – with Sensor Cables

When deciding whether machines need to be monitored, remember the value of doing the work to measure vibrations.  You can use sensor cables to get the job done.

 Machine vibration is something that needs to be measured in industrial workplaces.  If a machine is vibrating too much, too little, or in the wrong way, you should know about it before disaster strikes.  You could have problems like a halted assembly line or an exploding machine that injures or kills employees.  For this reason, people want to measure vibrations.

 Some costly problems:

 Sensor cables produce and measure electrical signals that are proportional to the acceleration of the vibrating comment (to which the accelerometer is attached).   It measures the velocity of the component.  The signal passes through an instrument, and depending on the settings, is displayed as “velocity waveform” or “velocity spectrum.” Velocity spectrum can be derived from velocity waveform utilizing a mathematical calculation called the Fast Fourier Transform or the FFT.
